What You will need to make wooden photo frame:

○ white photo frames (for example, Ribba from IKEA)
○ 4mm thin plywood from pine
○ jigsaw with a fine blade
○ fine sandpaper
○ plate
○ pencil
○ double-sided tape or hot glue gun

How to Make Wooden Photo Frame

Have you noticed arrows are…EVERYWHERE lately? Yeah, me too! And I think they’re rather fabulous to decorate with! What do you think? I have been crushing on wood arrows lately and so after eyeballing some leftover wood scraps {from my board and batten project}, I decided it wouldn’t be too hard to make my own arrows!



I’ve been on such a DIY kick lately. I love it! Power tools are addicting. So today I’m sharing with you how to make wood arrows! And trust me, from a Newbie DIYer, these are EASY! 

DIY Wood Arrows

We had several leftover 1×2’s from the board and batten in my Dining Room {details to come soon!} because I decided not to do the top ledge. I was trying to come up with a use for them when I was looking at some triangle pieces of scrap wood and it hit me. I could totally make simple wood arrows! So here they are! I totally love them.

How to Make Wood Arrows

Supplies:

• 7 feet of 1×2 pine boards
• Compound Saw {I use this saw}
• Wood Glue
• Wood Stain {I used Jacobean by Minwax}
• Small Brush
• Paper Towels
• Saw
• Electric Hand Sander
• Sand Paper

  *Always use proper safety precautions when handling power tools. Always wear gloves and safety glasses when using tools.*
1. First make the cuts as shown above. All cut angles are either straight or 45 degrees.

*If you want your arrows to have distress marks on them, go ahead and bang them up a little bit after step one.


2. Then using your brush, brush on stain going with the grain of the wood. Allow to sit for about 10 minutes and then wipe off the excess stain with a paper towel. Allow stain to dry according to package instructions.
TIP: Always stain first and then glue your wood. Yes, I learned this the hard way :)
 3. Glue the arrow pieces together using wood glue. Use a thin, even layer of glue and wipe away the excess glue. Allow glue to dry for 24 hours.
 

4. {sorry no picture} Using the electric hand sander, round the edges of the arrows and sand the flat surfaces of the arrows as well to get a worn look. You will expose some of the natural, unstained wood and that’s ok. I think it looks fabulous like that! After I’ve used the sander, I like to finish with a piece of sand paper to smooth out small details and places I can’t get with an electric sander.
 

Then hang your wood arrows on your walls! Or even place them on mantels, shelves, or in a corner.
HANGING TIP: I used sewing pins and a hammer to hang my arrows. That you don’t get distracted by seeing silver nail heads around my wood arrows.

Instruction:

If you are new to building, read through the GETTING STARTED section and other articles found under the BUILD tab in the menu on my site, it has valuable information about how to get started, tools and techniques. If you are unfamiliar with the finishing process, visit my Finishing school for some tips and tricks for painting like a pro and for special finishing practices. Use glue to secure your joints and Consider Painting or Staining individual sections prior to assembling. This makes the paint application virtually flawless. Coat with a spray on Poly or Wipe on Poly to protect your finish and your piece and it will last for ages. Adhere to all safety standards and guidelines, and be sure you follow safety protocol throughout your build. If you are unsure about whether you are building safely, run a quick online search for the tool or technique you are using, or contact me via email or post to the forum before you move ahead. My contact info can be found in the menu of my site.

Step 1:


Build the Frame: Use your Kreg Jigs® set for 3/4” stock and your 1 1/4” pocket hole screws and glue.

Step 2:



Add the Interior Frame: Build using your Kreg Jigs® set for 3/4” stock and your 1 1/4” pocket hole screws and glue, then fasten to the Frame using 1 1/4” Wood Screws and glue. Place the Interior Frame 3/4” from the top edge of the Frame to allow for the Seat Slats to rest flush in the next step. **If you would like to use your Kreg Jig to secure the seat in the next step, you will want to add the pocket holes to the Interior Frame prior to constructing and attaching it to the Frame. You don’t need to go crazy for that step, just add 3-4 pocket holes per interior frame board to simply hold the seat in place. You will attach in the next step.

Step 3:



Construct the Lower Seat: Using your Kreg Jigs®set for 3/4” stock and your 1 1/4” pocket hole screws and glue, fasten the slats to the Outside Seat Boards. Leave 1/4” Overhang at one end of the Seat (the end that will sit in the center of the lounger and connect to the back rest). You will then attach this seat to the Interior Frame constructed in the previous step using 1 1/4” pocket hole screws in the locations you created in the previous step, or by fastening the seat to the frame using 1 1/4” wood screws from the top of the seat down into the frame.

Step 4:

Construct the Back Rest: Use your Kreg Jigs®set for 3/4” stock and your 1 1/4” pocket hole screws and glue to construct the back rest portion of the seat, then attach to the Lower Seat using standard butt hinges.



Step 5:


Add the Back Rest Supports: Use your Kreg Jigs®set for 3/4” stock and your 1 1/4” pocket hole screws and glue to attach your supports to the back rest. They will attach in a vertical position to the back rest and should be spaced 27 1/4” apart (yellow bars) to adequately allow for the back rest stand in the next step. The lower support (blue), will simply attach in the center of the lowest board to provide extra support for the back rest.



Step 6: 
Construct the Back Rest Stand: Use your Kreg Jigs® set for 1 1/2” stock and your 2 1/2” pocket hole screws and glue to construct the stand. It will be something of a T Shape, only with 2 legs and a bottom, so not really a T Shape at all, but you get the point. Once you have fastened the stand together, attach it to the Back Rest using standard butt hinges as shown (it’s shown in an attached and lowered position, but please note that other than with the hinges, it doesn’t attach to the back rest itself, it needs to be able to move and rotate as you can see in the second image below for this step).




Step 7:

DIY Wooden Baby Gym. Obviously I have been having fun making wooden crafts. This little baby things, and this project is no different.
It is easy to think that you will accomplish great things but for me the most important thing to know that what I create has a meaning for me. Something I want, test, give away or otherwise benefit from.

 

Lets make DIY Baby GYM

You’ll need: 4 pieces of pine board, 1 wood dowel, drill, lace, wooden beads and some toys (mine are made from two wooden rings and crochet whales made from google search tutorial).



Step 1. I decided that my baby gym would be 50 cm high and 55 cm wide. I went to the hardware store and asked them do saw 4 pieces of pine board that were 60 cm each and a wood dowel that was 62 cm.

Step 2. My drill was 22 mm wide so I chose a wood dowel that was 23 mm for the perfect fit.

Step 3. Next step is to decide where the dowel should be for the gym to be 50 cm high and then drill a hole in the first board.

Step 4. Use this a template to mark where you should drill the next three holes.

Step 5. Fit the dowel in the holes and secure if you want to by drilling small holes and put a small wooden plug in the hole. 

Step 6. Decide how wide the gym should be, drill a small hole in each board and tie some lace of your choice between two of them and secure with two wooden beads.

Step 7. The gym is finished and it’s time for you to add toys of your choice. Our baby isn’t  born yet so these are just my favorite toys at the moment and I’m sure they’ll change over time depending on what our kiddo likes.

Great idea, rather than buying those plastic ones that will exist on this planet forever and ever. I'm sure you could find a use for it in some other way when he's too big to need it.
