This Girl Lived On 3 Apples A Day For 8 Months; Here's What She Looks Like Now

You know that old saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away"? Well, that definitely didn't apply in this situation.

Victoire Macon Dauxerre, an 18-year-old French high school student, was a normal girl. She enjoyed shopping, hanging out with friends, and had goals and aspirations.

One weekend she was out to lunch with her mother. As they were eating, she was "discovered" by a modeling agency. As soon as the representative approached her, the glamour and glitz of the modeling industry became overwhelming. Dauxerre quickly signed on with Elite modeling agency, and her dream of studying at Sciences Po, a Paris university, were put on hold indefinitely. However, once she stepped foot into this new world, she found out that the price you pay is more than hard work.

She revealed that "Nobody told me I had to lose weight. But I was told: in September, you'll be doing the Fashion Weeks, the clothes are size 32-34, and you'll have to fit in them."
Dauxerre was an extremely hard and determined worker. So she lost the necessary 22 pounds, which brought this 5'10" beauty down to 103 pounds. It came at a price. Her customary three meals consisted of one apple, but she would "indulge" on occasion--one piece of chicken or fish a week.
She quickly became one of the 20 most in-demand models in the entire world. Flying to Paris, Milan, and New York, Dauxerre was a fixture at Alexander McQueen and Miu Miu shows.

However, beneath the designer gowns Dauxerre was slowly wasting away. "My pulse was very weak, I was losing my hair, I had osteoporosis, and I stopped having my period." She even mentions that she'd faint between shows. She quickly went on a downward spiral losing hope in all things. She attempted to kill herself after only eight months in the modeling world. "Nobody understood. Everybody was telling me, 'You have a dream life,' but I'd never been so miserable," Dauxerre said.
At the age of 23, she retired from modeling and published a tell-all book titled Never Skinny Enough: the Diary of a Top Model. In it she called out designers and revealed just how brutal and abusive they are to their models, treating them like mindless mannequins.
Her story made the headlines, and since then she's been the inspiration behind a law banning models who are too skinny to work. She gives sage advice that being a model isn't a bad thing, but that any girl should run away from those who request you lose weight.

Dauxerre now wears a size 6, which she's hoping to display on stage once again. However, this time it'll be in a theatrical setting. Most models are never able to break free of this cycle, as it's all they've ever known. So much is left unsaid about what actually goes on in this industry. Stories like this need to be shared widely; so spread the word with your friends and remember to be happy just the way you are.
