10 Personal Development Tips That Will Change Your Life
I’m always passionate about personal development. Every one of us wanted to live a successful life. We all want something better, something bigger and live a charged and motivated life.

Regardless of whether you are looking for ways to improve yourself, to rediscover your passion or to motivate yourself, this article is a must-read for you.

Below are the 10 personal development tips that will change your life, if you act upon them…

1. Know Yourself

This is one of the most life-changing tips that can help you in every area of your life. Here’s a powerful quote for you…
“Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power.” – Lao Tzu
You have to know yourself and understand yourself in order to move yourself to the next level.
When you know what you love to do, you can use your passion to create amazing piece of work. When you know your personality, you can then choose the right career and mix with the right group of people.

Learn what are your strengths, your weakness, what do you love to do, where is your passion; what do you hate to do, learn your moods, your reactions, understand how the environment can affect you, etc.
Always commit to master yourself.

2. Create Your Vision

You will go through life aimlessly if you don’t know what you want. This is what happen to most people, no wonder the majority are ordinary and getting stuck in life.

If you want to be different and to live a better life, you must know your vision.
You have to at least have a picture of what you want to accomplish in the future. It is alright if your vision is blurry. If you can make your vision as clear and vivid, do it.

Your vision will serve as the ultimate destination in life. It will become your driving force and guide you to take the right path to it.
So create a vision for yourself now. Know what you want to achieve in the future and try to make it as vivid as possible.

3. Be Decisive

Are you someone who is decisive? Successful people are very decisive in what they do. They always seem to be able to make the right decision and have all the confidence that they need.

Being decisive is a skill and you can develop it.
Now, look at yourself. Do you always wondering what to eat, which shirt to wear or what to do? How do you come to the final decision of what to eat or what to wear?

You have to understand your decision making process. Are you someone who can decide and hold on to your decision? Or are you someone who always pushes away the responsibility to make decision and let someone else do it?

I’ve seen people who always ask around what to eat all the time. They just can’t come up with a decision and don’t know what they want.
Don’t be one of them. Know what you want and decide to go for it.
If you love to eat burger for dinner later, just decide to go for it and don’t ask around what other people’s want.

Develop your decision making skill from small things in your life such as what to do, what to wear and what to eat. Eventually you will build better skill and make better decision.

4. Know Your Goals

Do you have a short-term goal? If you don’t, you need to set it right away.
You see, you need to have a vision of your future to guide you through your life, but what really makes your vision come true is your goal.
It is what you do that will determine your future. Having a dream is good; having a solid goal that you can act on is more powerful.

For your own sake, set a short-term goal that you can achieve within 1 to 2 months and seriously work on it to accomplish it.
Far too often I have seen people going nowhere because the goal that they set is way too far that they fail to see any positive results and impact on their life.

Your motivation will not last. You need to set something that is close enough for you to work on and get the small victories so that you will gain the momentum and keep moving forward.
This is why you need to break down your goals into actionable steps.

So set your 1 to 2 months goals. Seriously commit to them and do all you can and see how they can affect your life.

5. Invest in Yourself

This is my favorite tips. It does not matter whether you are a degree holder or a college dropout. The universe is fair and it rewards people who invest in themselves and constantly improve themselves.
How many books have you read after step out of your school or college? And I’m referring to personal development books.

Most people never pick up a book after their college. This is why they are feeling stuck and wandering through life aimlessly.
You need to constantly improve yourself. Read at least 2 books a month. Attend seminars or workshop when possible. Or better yet, get a coach or mentor.

All the great leaders are readers. They read a lot and they are always looking forward to learn something at every moment.
You can never grow if you stop learning. And if you don’t learn, you will be doing things the same way. When you always do what you do, you will always get back the same old result.

Therefore, make it a decision from now on to invest in yourself. Start by reading at least 2 books in a month.

6. Build Your Confidence

The more you improve yourself, the more confident you will become. And the easiest way to boost your confidence level is through physical items.
You don’t have to buy a sports car or move to a big castle, you can start small by dressing professionally and groom properly.

Did you ever notice that there are certain clothes that you love to wear and when you wear them you feel like you are more good-looking and smart (for guys) or more gorgeous (for ladies)?

And the more confidence you have, the more motivated you will be. And when you have the motivation, you will accomplish more.

Your confidence level can come from 2 sources: Physically or from within

Sometimes, after you read some inspiring stories, it will motivate you and boost your confidence level. Sometimes some quotes can have the same impact on you.

It depends on your personal trigger. Some people feel driven after reading books. Some people feel fully charged after they talked to their mentors. While some people feel confident when they drive a sports car.
So take some time to discover what will give you the confident to achieve more. This is why you need to make it a habit to learn and to read more.

7. Spend Less Time on Things that Don’t Matter

How much time do you spend on things that don’t really matter? Such as watching television or surfing YouTube mindlessly just to have fun?

I’m not saying that you can’t watch TV or have fun with the games or internet. I’m saying that you should seriously cut down the time you WASTE on things that don’t really matter.
Some people said that they should watch the TV and relax while checking updates in Facebook after work. They said they deserve to enjoy after their work.

It is true that you can enjoy, but you have to remember that the moment you waste your time on things that don’t matter, you lost the moment on things that truly matter in your life.

Successful people are successful because they use their time wisely and spend most of their time working on their goals. They watch less TV and they spend less time on Facebook and YouTube (Unless they use Facebook or YouTube for work).

And one more thing, if you’re a heavy gamer and play with your phones all the time, it is time for you to seriously get rid of this bad habit.
Here’s the best quote from Bruce Lee to explain your usage of time…

“If you love life, don’t waste time, for time is what life is made up of.” – Bruce Lee

8. Develop Positive Thinking Habit

This is a challenging and difficult task to achieve. You have been conditioned and think at a certain way for so many years, it will require a consistent effort to break the habit.

Negative thinking definitely is not going to help you in improving the quality of your life. Nobody wants to stay with negative people as well. So don’t be one.
You need to be conscious about what you are thinking from time to time if you want to get rid of the negative thoughts.

There’s a brilliant way to do this. Just put on a rubber band on your wrist. Whenever you see that rubber band, remind yourself that you want to think positively.
So whenever a negative thought emerge from your head, pull the rubber band and snap your hand! It hurts, I know, but it is a great way to remind yourself and to train you not to think negatively ever again.

Do this consistently for a couple of weeks. You have to make it a habit in order to break the pattern of your thought and to be conscious about positive thinking.

9. Cultivate Your Strength and Passion

Most people are trying to improve their weakness, that’s what we learned from school. However, if you want to be successful, you have to improve on your strength and make you the best.

Working on your weakness is not going to help you to become extraordinary, it will only make you someone… Normal.
When you focus your effort and zoom into just doing one thing or improve in one skill, you will become an expert in that area.

Look at Michael Jordan, he became one of the best basketball players not because he diversify his ability into all kind of sports, but he focus only in improving his basketball skill. This is what makes him the best.

You should do the same. Working with your strength will also give you the energy and motivation. Think about it, do you feel tired doing things that you don’t like or weak?
Or do you think you can do a better job at something that you are good with? The answer is obvious. You can only do a great job if it is something you are good in.

So find out your area of expertise and grow your strength. This is the only way to do great things.

10. Challenge Yourself with Something New

How often do you challenge yourself? Do you feel boring and directionless in life? Perhaps you need to challenge yourself and do something new.

It is said that if you keep doing what you do all the while, you will be getting the same old result like before.
So do something special and do something new. Can you imagine eating the same food everyday for a week? Don’t you feel bored with it? Thank God that we have a variety of foods to choose from.

Thus, inject newness into your life. Once in a while, visit places that you have never been before. Set it as a goal to travel to other country at least once a year. Try out new place to eat from time to time.

Do something that you never tried before. If you never been to the museum before, you might want to check it out. Try to look at things from a totally different angle.
When your life is filled with newness, you will feel the freshness and life will be exciting for you.

And this is surely one of the easiest and best ways to improve the quality of your life. Good Luck to you.
