Christmas! It is a time of year when people are looking forward to it. Why? For some it is the family party where they gather for a special meal and gifts. It is a time for other festivities that are aimed at the day of Christmas, such as meetings with friends or co-workers. For many, it is time to greet and exchange cards, it is the occasion to catch up with friends and family. It is also the time of preparation and anticipation. Many days are spent decorating the house, cooking, thinking about gifts for everyone. Making gifts can be a real art. Some like to choose very carefully the appropriate gift for the person they love.

Another custom is to celebrate Christmas by giving gifts especially to children. There is talk of a character we call Santa Claus and the children put stockings to be filled with presents for them. Elsewhere they call him Santa Claus and the children put their shoes by the hearth of the hearth stove for them to leave gifts. And in other countries it is called San Nicolas and this personage visits the homes leaving treats for the children. Every country around the world, where Christianity is practiced, celebrates Christmas in its own way and according to its customs.
Giving gifts, however, takes place, only to remember and celebrate the greatest gift ever offered, when God sent Jesus to bring the gift of love to this world. Mary was the first to hear about it when she was visited by the angel Gabriel, who said: (Luke 1: 30-32), "Do not fear Mary, for God has decided to bless you. You will become pregnant and you will have a son and you will call him Jesus.
He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. " Joseph, the one who was to marry Maria was naturally confused when he heard that his young wife was pregnant. But the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him (Matthew 2: 20,21), "Do not be afraid to go ahead with your marriage to Mary. For the child that is in it is conceived by the Holy Spirit. And he will have a son and you will call him Jesus, because he will save the people from their sins.
"When the shepherds in the midst of the field heard this, they were afraid of the presence of the angel of the Lord. But he said to them, (Luke 2: 10,11) "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy to all! The Savior was born tonight at Bethlehem and then (v.13 and 14) suddenly the angel was surrounded by a host of other angels, the armies of heaven, praising God: "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace To men."
These are the words we often hear at Christmas: "Peace on earth and good will toward men." But how can we feel peace and experience goodwill on earth among so many struggles and terror? In recent years, the world is experiencing a sense of fear and insecurity because terrorism has come to be a threat to the globe. We call ourselves, "Women of Hope."
How can we find hope in this world? How can we have peace and goodwill? I believe that we can only find peace, hope and goodwill, accepting the greatest gift that has ever been made. The gift of love that God sent us, sending us His Son Jesus. When we celebrate your birth again this Christmas, with our different ways, with our different customs and cultures, we ask God that you can find peace and hope by accepting your wonderful Christmas gift, Jesus Christ.

Why do we celebrate Christmas on December 25th?
December 25 is the traditional anniversary of the birth of Christ, but many scholars are uncertain of the true date.
The decision to celebrate Christmas on December 25 was made during the fourth century by the bishops of the church in Rome. They had their specific reasons.
Having already turned away from the worship of the one true God and creator of everything, many cultures in the Roman Empire had fallen into the worship of the sun. Recognizing their dependence on the yearly course of the sun in the heavens, they held feasts around the winter solstice in December, when the days were shorter. As part of their festivals, they built bonfires to give strength to the sun god and bring it back to life. When it was apparent that the days were longer, they rejoiced.
The leaders of the church in Rome decided to celebrate the birth of Christ during the winter solstice in an attempt to turn this popular pagan celebration into something Christian. On the one hand, their efforts failed to convince people; And the pagan festivals continued. Today we find a strange mixture of pagan and Christian elements that characterize our modern celebration of Christmas.
Despite the pagan background of many December traditions, and whether or not Jesus was truly born on December 25th, our goal is to fix the eyes of all men to the true Creator and Christ of Christmas. The light of the world has come. And the season and the celebration of Christmas offers the church many wonderful opportunities to preach the good news - that men can be made righteous and have peace with God through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.
